The SOW Workshop “History of The Relations Between The Natural Sciences And Orthodox Christianity” took place on Tuesday, the 21st, and Wednesday, the 22nd of June, 2022. There were twelve participants, whose contributions were spread over two days. The first day of the workshop commenced at 10.00, with the two co-chairs of the workshop, Ronald Numbers and Kostas Tampakis, describing the current status of the project, the goals of the co-chairs for the future, and the next steps forward. Then, Sandy Sakkorafou presented her paper on “Attempts of natural theology in the Greek Orthodox world (18th to 19th century)”. The next presentation was by Christopher Howell, with the title “Everything that lives is Holy. Phillip Sherrard and his work”. After a short coffee break, Nickolas Jacobson gave his presentation “Religion and Lawgiving in Astronomical Tables: Tables of Time and the Council of Florence-Ferrara (1431-1449)” and was followed by Olga Čadajeva and her paper on “Cosmology in Russian thought on the eve of modernity”. On the first day of the workshop then had a two-hour lunch break, after which Gerasimos Merianos gave his presentation on “Alchemy and Orthodoxy in Byzantium (7th – 15th century)”. The final paper was to be given by Karl Hall on the topic of “Religion to atheism in Russia (18th-20th century)”, but Karl Hall did not attend the workshop. The next day also started at 10.00, with the paper of Eleonora Filippova and Daniel Todes on “Prayer as Paradigm: A. A. Ukhtomsky and the Psycho-Physiology of Salvation”. It was followed by the paper of Efthymios Nikolaidis and Vaggelis Koutalis, which discussed “The history of the relations of Orthodox Christianity and the Natural Sciences: An overview”. Finally, Kostas Tampakis gave his presentation “Weaponizing science for an Orthodox nation: The journal Rays, the Christian Union of Scientists and the battles over ideology in 20th century Greece”. The workshop ended with an hour-long discussion on the workshop as a whole.
